Wallpaper Removal in Charlotte

Painting over wallpaper is a decision you make twice.

Wallpaper comes off in two stages, and most of the work is the second one. The paper is the easy part; the adhesive left behind is what ruins a paint job, because it reactivates under a wet coat and telegraphs every seam back through the finish.

So we strip, wash the adhesive off properly, then skim and sand the wall flat before priming. From there it hands straight to interior painting. Where the wall behind the paper turns out to be damaged, drywall & plaster picks it up without a second booking.

What you get out of it

  • No seams ghosting throughAdhesive comes off completely, which is the only reliable way to stop old seams showing in the finished wall.
  • Damage found and fixedWallpaper hides a lot. Whatever is behind it gets repaired rather than papered over again.
  • Straight into paintStrip, repair and finish are one job with one crew, so the room isn't out of use twice.

Wallpaper removal questions

Can't you just paint over the wallpaper?

You can, and it usually looks acceptable for about a year until the seams and edges start lifting through the paint. We don't recommend it and we don't quote it as the standard option.

What if the wall is damaged under the paper?

It often is, particularly if the paper was hung straight onto unprimed board. Repair is quoted as its own line once we can see what's actually there.

How long does a room take?

Stripping and prepping a typical room is usually one to two days before painting starts, depending on how many layers are up there and how well the wall was prepared originally.
